Invisalign®

The placement of your teeth matters. Not only does your tooth alignment affect the way your smile looks, the placement of your teeth can affect your oral health. Having straight teeth makes life much easier for patients trying to maintain healthy teeth and gums. This is because crowded, overlapped, rotated, and crooked teeth are very difficult to keep clean; and therefore increases a person’s risk of developing tooth decay and periodontal disease. Your orthodontic health is important – even if you are an adult. Dr. Hickey and our team offer Invisalign clear braces for adults looking to correct and improve the placement of their teeth.

Invisalign is comfortable and discreet so that busy adults can improve their appearance and oral health without much change in their everyday lives. This treatment option is an alternative to conventional metal and wire braces and is suitable for those who’ve previously worn braces along with those who’ve never received orthodontic care.

Invisalign Clear Braces

Invisalign clear braces are a revolutionary treatment option for adults and some teenagers in need of orthodontic treatment. Invisalign treatment consists of wearing removable oral appliances called aligners. These aligners fit over the teeth snuggly and generate the gentle forces needed to create tooth movement.

The materials used to make Invisalign are unique. Made from clear plastic, Invisalign is practically undetectable to others. A person’s treatment is divided into weekly phases. Every two weeks, patients will exchange their previously worn aligners for a tighter set. Aligners become tighter as a person progresses through treatment and within a few months, teeth will begin to move to noticeably healthier positions.

Treatment Benefits

Receiving orthodontic treatment of any kind has prolific benefits on a person’s quality of life and wellness. In addition to benefits of receiving orthodontic care, Invisalign offers unique advantages. Invisalign is removable. This convenient feature allows patients to eat meals and clean their teeth without obstructive oral appliances in the way. Additionally, the comfortable plastic used to make Invisalign won’t scratch against or cut into soft oral tissue like the linings of lips and cheeks.

Last but not least, Invisalign provides an inconspicuous method for improving one’s smile. There are no obvious looking wires or brackets to distract others around you.

Common Invisalign Questions

What is Invisalign and how does it work?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system that improves the positioning of teeth and the occlusion. Using the same principle of applying consistent pressure to teeth as conventional metal and wire braces, Invisalign facilitates tooth movement to close gaps, correct crooked teeth, and align rotated teeth into healthier positions.

Unlike metal and wire braces, Invisalign’s orthodontic appliances are removable. The appliances patients wear during treatment are called aligners. Made from clear plastic, these aligners fit very snuggly over teeth. They are custom made so that they properly accommodate oral anatomy. A set of aligners is worn for two weeks and then replaced with a tighter set. As aligners get tighter over time, they will generate tooth movement while accommodating the new positions of teeth.

Invisalign is discreet and comfortable. The plastic used to make aligners is soft and slightly pliable. This means that aligners won’t scrape into soft oral tissue the way that brackets and wires from conventional braces do. Since aligners are removed, people can eat food easily and without obstruction. Patients can also take out their aligners to brush and floss their teeth.

Is Invisalign right for me?

Invisalign can help many people. This treatment option is best for adults but some teenagers might benefit from it, too. The only way to determine if this treatment is right for you is to schedule an Invisalign braces consultation with our dentist. At your consultation, our team will perform an examination to explore the placement of your teeth and determine your unique needs. Consultations are a great time to discuss your health history and ask questions. If we determine that Invisalign meets your needs, we will work with you on setting up your first appointment for treatment.

Does insurance cover Invisalign?

For adults, dental insurance typically does not provide coverage for orthodontic care. Since dental insurance does not cover adult orthodontic treatment, patients pay for Invisalign out-of-pocket. To help pay for treatments not covered by insurance, our practice offers no interest or low monthly payment financing options.

If you have questions about the cost of treatment, our front desk staff will be happy to discuss projections on the cost of treatment after you have seen our dentist for a consultation.

How much does Invisalign cost?

The cost of Invisalign can vary from person to person. This is because some people may need to wear Invisalign longer than others. Everyone’s oral anatomy is unique and people respond to orthodontic treatment at different rates. Since the length of treatment can vary, patients who require longer treatment will incur higher costs.

If you have questions about treatment costs, we recommend scheduling a consultation with our dentist. After your initial consultation, we can provide more accurate cost estimates.
